Vancouver's Japandroids are two dudes - Brian King (guitar/vocals) and David Prowse (drums/vocals) - who specialize in lo-fi, fuzzy garage-punk. So, yeah, comparisons to No Age are inevitable, and, like No Age, Japandroids have a maximalist approach to being a two-piece band - they want to (and do) sound like more than two guys. Current peer group aside, "Young Hearts Spark Fire" recalls Hüsker Dü at their heart-on-sleeve, caterwauling prime. I can easily picture Bob Mould or Grant Hart wailing out the song's mantra "We used to dream/Now we worry about dying/I don't wanna worry about dying!" which the Japandroids turn into a bittersweet rallying cry for resisting the onset of adulthood.Post-Nothing is out 4/28 on Unfamiliar.
